Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James has a ritual he likes to follow every time his team enters the post season and begins chasing the coveted Larry O’Brien trophy. This ritual entails shutting down all of his social media accounts and going dark on anyone and everyone who could get in his head by posting memes, writing insults, or simply taunting the famous hoops star.
When LeBron delivered on his promise to bring a championship to his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, he broke his silence in a major way – on social media.
James chose the increasingly popular Instagram platform, which I wrote about here, to address his critics and break his silence.
Using the video feature, James unveiled this video:
Next, he posted a photo of himself with the NBA trophy, and included this text, which was a direct shot at everyone who doubted James could return to Cleveland and deliver on his promise to fulfill a life long dream of winning a championship for his hometown:
They said u lost a step, wasn’t explosive as once was, the best days was in the real view, questioned your drive, your leadership, your commitment, you don’t have killer instinct, going back home is the worst mistake in your career, he got the coach fired, players traded, won’t work between him and Kyrie, Him and Kev won’t work, love your teammates to much, there’s no way he can deliver a championship in his hometown, etc etc etc…. But guess what THATS NONE OF MY BUSINESS #StriveForGreatness #ThisOneIsForTheLand #PutSomeRespeckOnMyName Hahahaha!!! Yes sir
When I was growing up, we were lucky to see a television interview where our favorite players could have a platform to voice their opinion. In today’s era, we have many social media platforms that allow us to get up close and personal with our favorite icons, role models, and athletes.
Congratulations to LeBron James on an NBA championship, and congrats to Instagram for being the delivery method of choice of the world’s most famous basketball player.
